Dear Parents and students,
Congratulations! Grade 1 -4 did a wonderful job in presenting their own Chinese book on the topic of “My Family”. The students behaved well as a presenter and audience. I am proud of you all. Please keep this good behavior because we will have more presentations later. A couple of students did not prepare and did not present. I hope everyone should be prepared well next time. This is a very good chance for you to practice your speaking ability as well as train yourself to speak in public.
Grade 1-2, we will continue to secure the Chinese number characters writing. They are in the following:
一二三四五六七八九十
Grade 3-4 will proceed to learn the new topic about colors. For the fifth question on the homework this week, I suggest you to go to the Chinese webpage, click on “curriculum”, “colors”, and then listen to “Color Song” several times. You should jot down the colors in Chinese pinyin first. I will not count the spelling of the pinyin. Please try your best to have some memory about how to say the colors.
The colors are in the following:
红色(red) 绿色(green), 黄色(yellow),蓝色(blue);
白色(white),黑色(black), 橙色(orange),紫色(purple),
颜色(colors)。
For grade 5-8, I want to remind you to go to Chinese webpage, click on “assignment”, pick “Novemer Project for grade 5-8”, read the instructions, and either print out or copy the template. Fill out the template, practice reading it, and turn in on week 14 (11/30). You don’t need to copy my template exactly. Being creative is highly recommended. If you have any questions, please e-mail me for help anytime. Your learning is slowing down because there have been no Chinese lessons for three weeks in a row. Please be optimistic to use the time for reviewing. If you secure the learned materials, it will be easier for you to add on the new materials when you come back.
I want to mention here that for the first time, all students from grade 7 and 8 turned in their homework on time. This is a good model for the lower grades. Thank you and keep it up.
For all students, please pay attention to the updated announcement about the “Chinese Corner”. I will consult the details with Mrs. Lambrecht before I put it into practice. The “Chinese Corner” is a time you can come to Chinese classroom to ask questions, practice your speaking ability, and finish the projects. It will be at noon time on Thursday. You can bring your lunch to the Chinese classroom to eat with other students. I expect the “Chinese Corner” can benefit your learning. In order to have a good experience while learning Chinese I have to plan out the Chinese Corner thoroughly. I estimate we can start the Chinese Corner in December.
Thanksgiving 感恩节 gǎn ēn jié , try to say it first. I will teach you this Thursday!
Have a good week of study!
