Curriculum Goal: In this class, the students will learn Chinese greetings, classroom language, where China is, the capital and major cities, pinyin, tones, moon festival, “where” sentences, Chinese New Year, colors, and food. These topics are related to student’s real life and are the foundation to step for further study.
Content oriented objectives: The following are the topics that we will cover for this year.
1. Greetings and telling people your name.
2. Learn the songs of “How are you?” and “Daily Courtesy Song”
3. Introduce the map of China, learn to say and write “中国” (China) ,learn where the Yellow and Yangzi river are, and learn to say and write the cities 北京(Beijing)、上海(Shanghai)、西安(Xi’an)。
4. Pinyin Chart.
5. Introduce the 5 tones in Mandarin Chinese
6. Counting and writing 0-10
7. Learn Chinese moon festival.
8. Learn number song
9. Learn 10 colors and sing color song
10. Learn 8 family titles and chatting of family titles
11. Learn 12 zodiac animals and sing the Chinese Zodiac Song
12. Learn the story of why Chinese New Yea.
13. Learn what and how to celebrate Chinese New Year
14. Learn "gong xi gong xi " song
15. Learn food for celebrating Chinese New Year
16. Make a snake craft
17. Learn the song of “Apple, apple is yummy!” in Chinese
18. Learn food
19. Learn restaurant lanuage
16. Learn hobbies
Assignment: Assignments will be given on a weekly basis and should be finished and turned in the following week.
Vocabulary: You will have to know how to say 3 words from the work bank per week. The mastery words will be circled by the teacher.
Classroom expectation: Active participation is expected because we are learning together. The more you are involved in the activities, the more you learn.
