Dear parents and students,
Thank you everyone for making the 2013 Chinese New Year poster. I hope each of you learned something from helping edit the poster design, drawing, coloring, cutting, gluing, and especially editing the information about Chinese New Year. I enjoyed seeing each of you working together with one another like a happy family.
We have agreed to assign a homework collector each week. The homework collector is responsible for reminding your friends to do the homework, bring it to class, and to collect the homework. I have the list of names in hand and will announce the person each week. Thank you for volunteering as the homework collector. The first graders have been #1 in turning all the homework on time. Please learn this good homework attitude from them. One more thing about homework, I have seriously deducted the points if you have late homework. It will certainly affect your total score. However, there is one chance to earn extra points to move up your grade. You can practice writing your Chinese name in characters. Please follow the writing strokes I printed out for you individually. I hope to see you write your name on every paper in characters by the end of the school year.
We have wrapped up our topic about Chinese New Year this week. We will begin a new topic “food and restaurant” after you come back from break. As I have mentioned in class, we will use a task-based method to learn. You can think about the most common foods you eat every day and what kind of language you will use if you go to Chinese restaurant. This way, you will have more ideas and can contribute to what we are going to learn after you come back from break. Your proactive involvement will help your learning and my teaching. I want to see that happens in our Chinese language classroom.
Last but not least, I have instituted a new bathroom and water drinking time policy. I am impressed that everyone agrees and immediately follows the instructions. I am always astonished by your excellent behavior.
I am not going away during the break. If any of you by any chance coming to Ann Arbor area, please let me know I would be happy to host you. My home phone is 734-994-9987, cell phone is 734-846-0621. Home address: 2769 Walnut Ridge Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
Have a nice mid-winter break,
