Dear Parents and Students 大家好dà jiā hǎo( Hello everyone),
I am impressed that students can retain so much Chinese. I also found out some students who study during the week perform better in class, such as responding to my questions, participating in dialogue practice, and doing better in listening tests. I would like to encourage everyone to study a little bit during the week, especially by doing homework to help you establish a solid foundation.
Turning in homework remains as an obstacle to our learning. I have included homework into the curriculum. The demonstration and explanation of the instructions on how to do the homework have been done in class. If your students still have trouble doing the homework please e-mail me at [email protected] or [email protected] , I will give immediate assistance. I want you to turn in the homework even if it is incomplete. It will still give me information about your learning so I can modify my teaching to help students. Thank you for your attention on this issue.
As for the Pen Pal Surveys, I only got 29/48 back. Please read, sign, and turn the form into me (you can put in my mailbox) no later than 12pm on 12/14. If you don’t turn in the agreement sheet, I can’t assign you a pen pal from China if you want to have one. The Pen Pal School website is: http://www.qsedu.com/. Please go online to explore it when you have free time. I hope the connection can be done ASAP so we can invite them to celebrate Diversity Day in January and join them for the Chinese New Year celebration. I have attached my responses to your concerns and comments about Pen Pal project. Please click “Response to concerns and comments about Pen Pal Project” below to view these responses.
Last Thursday was the first time we had Chinese Corner Time. The students were excited and behaved well. We watched and listened to ‘12 Chinese Zodiac Animals’, which is the next Chinese song we will learn. However, the time flew and I was in a hurry to pick the students up and to walk them back to the cafeteria. All in all, I enjoyed having them over and I am sure everyone had a good time. I will discuss with the students this Thursday to decide the next meeting time. I forgot to ask 5th -8th students about the Chinese Corner Time and will ask this Friday.
For 7th and 8th grade students, I want to announce again about the Chinese Dumpling Party at my house. It will be from 11am to 1 or 2 pm. This is considered as a “Friend Invitation”. The possible dates are: 1/2,1/3,1/4,1/5,1/6. Please e-mail me at [email protected] (I will use your e-mail addresses in an invitation letter later) your preference dates. You can pick more than one date. I will pick the date that most of you can come. After deciding the date, a detailed invitation will go to you by e-mail. Bennen and Cameron told me that their parents can help as chaperons, thank you! We need one to two parents to be chaperones for 8th grade students. Please let me know if you can help.
周末快乐zhōu mò kuài lè!(Have a nice weekend!)
